Using a checklist can help you to feel fully prepared and confident to deliver your very best.
“Spectacular achievement is always preceded by unspectacular preparation.” – Robert H. Schuller
Preparation is key for a successful presentation. Because preparation for a presentation is complex and has many moving parts, I have found it helpful to use a checklist to ensure I am not missing any critical parts of the process.
Checklists are beneficial for speakers in that they:
1. Assist with task management.
Using a checklist ensures that nothing is overlooked or forgotten. This is especially important in complex or high-stakes situations.
2. Enhance planning and productivity.
A checklist can help with prioritization of tasks and effective use of your time as well as ensure you have all the necessary documents, items, and arrangements in place. This is particularly helpful if you are traveling.
3. Reduce stress.
A checklist provides a clear, tangible plan that can alleviate some stress that comes with preparing and delivering speeches.
Another advantage is that it can serve as an external memory aid, allowing you to offload information and free up mental space for the more creative aspects of speech preparation.
Helpful Resource
I thought it would be helpful to share a checklist that I developed that helps ensure I don’t forget important details that are critical for success on the stage (whether I’m virtual or in-person).
There is also space to add other items to your list so that it can be modified or tailored as needed.
I hope you find it useful!
