Speaking…with Gratitude

During this time of year, and particularly during this week, our thoughts turn to gratitude. Research has shown that giving thanks is good for us. When we shift our thinking to focusing on what is good, this positive change creates more good in our lives. People who show gratitude in their daily lives report fewer health problems, more happiness, and display higher levels of energy and productivity. So, what are you thankful for?

How might an attitude of gratitude be applied to public speaking? It’s all in how you think of your upcoming speaking engagement. A simple shift in thinking from, “I have to give this presentation” to “I get to give this presentation!” can powerfully transform how you are thinking about the experience. Here are three ways to shift your thinking to a more positive “get to” mentality:

You get the opportunity to share your message, knowledge, and insights with your audience.

You get to impact your listeners to make a change or take action in their lives.

You get to raise your visibility as an expert in your field.

Be grateful for your audience that they have taken the time to hear your message, and you will be rewarded with more opportunities.
